Dr. Brylie

I've realized for awhile that I need a way to remember the funny/clever things Brylie says. For awhile I knew where some of her comments came from, basically she was copying things Brandon or I had said. Now she has moved on to saying things I have no idea where she got them from. Today was such a day. Beckam is sick again, this time with croup. I know no shocker there. We were all upstairs and Brylie asked if Beckam was still sick. I told her yes he was. She then went to her room and pulled out her doctor kit and the next thing I know I hear her say, "Dr. Brylie to the rescue." She proceeded to give Beckam a full check up, shots included. I would have taken some pictures but I had to help Beckam be an ideal patient. At the end Brylie gave Beckam a clean bill of health and said he was good during his check-up. I definitely like "Dr. Brylie to the rescue" better then "Mom, you're not cool".

Easter Weekend

Easter weekend began with an early visit from the Easter Bunny. This was mainly due to needing the filled baskets for the ward Easter activity later on Saturday, but Brandon and I are still trying to figure out how the Easter Bunny will work in our house. I like having all "secular" Easter traditions on Saturday and leaving Sunday for the true reason for Easter and on top of that I didn't have the Easter Bunny growing up. My family just did a monstrous egg hunt, the Saturday before Easter, with more candy then I can describe and got new Easter church clothes. Brandon grew up with both the egg hunt on Saturday and the Easter Bunny visiting on Sunday. Oh the joys of figuring out our own family traditions. I'm just glad we have a few years before we need to stick to anything for sure. Getting back to the weekend, the kids really enjoyed their baskets. Brylie got her Easter puppy she had hoped for in the store and Beckam just played with whatever we put in front of him.
When Brylie woke up she seemed a little flushed but acting like herself so we thought everything would work how we had planned, picking up my sister to watch the kids while I went skydiving, going to the ward activity, leaving to go skydiving, getting back to take my sister home, and coloring Easter eggs. Well needless to say the only thing that happened as planned on that list was me going skydiving. Brylie got sick on the way back from picking up my sister. I thought that would scrap the skydiving plan, but my saint of a sister still wanted to watch the kids. I can't thank her enough for that. So there was no Easter egg hunt and no coloring eggs. (I'm still bound and determined to color eggs so hopefully we get to that tonight. )
Sunday morning Brylie seemed to be better so we got the kids dressed in their new Easter best and went off to church. After church I tried to get some pictures of the kids, but lets just say I hope I got an A for effort.

This is the first year, at least that I can remember, the Brandon's parents haven't been in town for Easter. We usually spend Easter afternoon/dinner at their house, so this year was the first year our little family was on their own for Easter dinner. I do have to say the Ham and funeral potatoes turned out very well and I think we've started another tradition. All in all we had a great Easter and are so grateful for the events (the atonement and resurrection) we remember at this time of year.

I Came, I Saw, I JUMPED!!!

After having to cancel two weekends due to weather and almost giving up on the idea, I finally went skydiving. I don't have the official proof yet (video is coming) but it was amazing. I highly recommend it to anyone who is even toying with the idea of going skydiving. In a way I was hoping it would kind of be scary so I'd get it out of my system and not want to go again (it isn't the cheapest thing to do), but I really, really want to go again. As soon as I was back in ear shot I kept telling Brandon he had to go. We'll see if that happens. As soon as I get pictures I'll post them. Skydiving is AWESOME!!!

Daddy, Daughter, and Disney Princesses

Today Brandon and Brylie had their first Daddy/Daughter date and went to Princesses on Ice. Brylie has been talking about little else for the last week and a half. She was so excited to go. She picked out her princess dress. (She has a Sleeping Beauty dress, but she insisted on wearing the purple one.) When daddy finally got home she was ready to go.
Brandon says she fell asleep on the way there, woke up when he was trying to get the tickets out of his pocket, and really loudly exclaimed, "We're here!" When they got home Brylie had a new Cinderella doll with her and couldn't stop talking about all the princesses she saw and the big dragon that blew fire. She had a really good time and Brandon had fun watching her excitement throughout the show.
Now we just have to figure out how to get her to Disneyland.

Jammie Day

Today was declared jammie day in our house. For the last couple of days Beckam has been overly clingy, demanding, and irritable. Needless to say, we haven't got a whole lot done. I'm chalking it up to teething because I really don't know what else it can be. And with today being a bad weather day we weren't going to get out, so it seemed like the perfect day to take it easy. We all stayed in our jammies and did whatever we felt like. Brylie and I built a fort and Beckam stayed close by. We watched a couple of movies, did some coloring, and renamed the fort to whatever Brylie wanted it to be (it was a house, dog house, and castle). It was a fun laid back day. I see more jammie days in our future.

Friends

I often think that if everyone could follow the example of children, in certain aspects of life, the world would be a better place. For example, how kids view their peers. Most of the young kids I know, say around 3 or under, view all other kids as friends. They can be complete strangers, but as soon as they encounter them, they are friends. Brylie does have some friends she can name, but if she doesn't know their name, she just calls them "my friend." She doesn't care where they are from, what they believe, or how they look. She just wants to play and be friends. She is concerned when other kids are crying and she doesn't know why. She is unjudgemental and wants to play with the kid who is off by themself and willingly approaches them. She constantly asks to go see or play with her friends and when she pretends she tells her friends to come on and play with her. Friend is a word she uses quite freely. I know that we need to have some caution with who we interact with, but there are definitely lessons to be learned from children. I know I don't use friend as freely as I should.

Skydiving Update

Well kiddies, skydiving is off for this Saturday. I just got the bad news from Brandon. It looks like the plane they use is stuck in California and won't be here by Saturday. We're working on getting everything rescheduled. I will jump soon!! Looks like Brandon gets to go skiing Saturday after all...

The BIG 3-0....and loving it?

Yes today I turned 30! That just sounds so much older then 29 and I'm relieved to report I don't feel any older. Until a few days ago I didn't think too much of turning thirty, but as it got closer it just seemed like such a big thing. This birthday has been a pretty good one. It started by Brandon not going into work as early, letting me sleep in a little, and making me breakfast in bed. I woke up to Brandon and Brylie singing Happy Birthday while delivering breakfast. The rest of the day was laid back and really lazy. I got nothing around the house done but I played a ton with Brylie and Beckam and watched 101 Dalmatians with Brylie while holding a sleeping Beckam. Brandon got home from work in time to take the kids to his parents house while we went to dinner at a nice restaurant with Randy and Viv. No jeans were allowed so I got to wear my nice adult clothes. It was a great dinner and so nice to be able to eat a meal without the kiddies. I am now less then an hour away from my birthday being over and I have to say, turning 30 wasn't as big as I thought it would be. But that won't keep me from marking this event. I told Brandon, and a lot of other people, I wanted to go skydiving for my 30th birthday. Well Brandon set it up and I will be jumping this Saturday. Wish me luck!! And thank you to everyone who has called, sent me a message, or wished me a Happy Birthday in person. You've helped make this day special.

Football Here We Come

I've decided I have a linebacker in training, which is fine by me since that means he'll support Brandon and I in our old age. Beckam now weighs in at 20 lbs. 4 oz. and is 27 inches long. (So that means in six and a half months he has gained almost 12 lbs and grown 7 inches. He weighs 10 pounds less then Brylie and she is almost 3.) He's staying right up there in the 90 to 95ish percentile. He doesn't seem to be tapering off at all. I was carrying him today and realized how badly I want this boy to start crawling. My back will be so grateful when he can follow me around instead of me having to cart him everywhere. At the same time I don't want him to grow up too fast. I'm in quite the dilemma.
